Vatican City and A NEW POPE!

Our morning shocked us because of the hustle and bustle of Roman traffic. We took the efficient transit system to the first destination, The Vatican Museum! Around every corner and behind every door was a new era in history of our Catholic Faith. What a journey through time with the views of tapestry, paintings, and sculptures!

We then walked into the most breathtaking view we have seen yet, St. Peter's Basilica. As soon as you enter, there is a presence that can't be explained. From Michelangelo's Pieta to Bernini's tabernacle, there was so much to see. A silent prayer enjoyed in this awe inspiring basilica. It was also incredible to see the large amounts of media waiting for the white smoke!

After the Vatican, we all went for dinner. Mid way through, there was a buzz about the new Pope being elected soon. We looked up and saw the news reporting on white smoke! We rushed through and headed directly back to St. Peter's Square.

The transit was packed full of excited Catholics ready to meet the new Pope. We all ran off the subway and into the square where we were greeted with over a hundred thousand people. After wiggling our way through, we got a chance to see the new Pope, Argentinean Jorge Mario Bergoglio, known now as Pope Francis. We were so lucky to be part of this historic day in the Catholic Church. We topped the night off with a gelato!
